Metodología de la Enseñanza del Inglés como Lengua Extranjera

Este curso presenta un panorama de los aspectos más recientes de la metodología  de enseñanza del inglés como lengua extranjera, otorgándole un énfasis especial a los procesos socios comunicativos de enseñanza y centrados en el estudiante. Promueve el análisis de lo procesos de enseñanza del inglés  a la luz de los lineamientos entregados por los nuevos Planes y Programas, del Sub-sector Inglés. Este curso debe ser impartido en inglés.

Comparative Essay. (THE WEAKEST)

On this assignment we needed to briefly summarise the main argument and/or findings of the three articles. Then compare each author’s views on methodology, didactics and teacher assumptions. Point out why such views are relevant to ELT teachers.

I consider this assignment the weakest one, due to my weakest skill is writing. In consequence, the feedback provided by the teacher indicated that I had several elementary mistakes, grammar errors and vocabulary range.

On the other hand, these type of assignments are the ones that make me realized about my weaknesses and work hard to improve them. Therefore, I consider these type of assignments as a challenge and s source of motivation to continue improving on my writing skills.

Finally, I considered this task as an oportunity to realized about the importance of methodology on ELT. Moreover, knowing how methodology enrich the pedagogical labor is essential for us, as teachers to be. It is a fact that having these knowledge and concepts integrated into our reperoire will be beneficial not only for us, as future teachers, but especially for our future students.

LLP "Language Learning Profile"  (THE STRONGEST)

The aim of this assignment was to create a LLP that must include the following:

  • A two-page Theoretical Framework on Language Learner Strategies. This framework should as a minimum, reference Chamot and Oxford and other authors we have discussed in class (1500 words approx).
  • Background of learner (age, social background, years studying English, reasons for learning English etc.)
  • Interview of learner (in English)
  • A full transcription of the interview
  • Phonetic transcription of 3 lines of the interview
  • An in-depth analysis and assessment of their linguistic needs, problems and possible recommendations to improve in the context of a Lesson. (Use the Lesson Plan template to help with this part)
  • Discussions and Conclusions on what you have found and how it can help your teaching in the future.

I consider this assignment the strongest one, because I felt very motivated to complete the assignment. I addition, the part in which we needed to interview a first year student, makes me realize of my skills improvment  through time.

On the other hand, this assignment was an essential tool to observe the process in which learners acquire an L2 through time and intensive practice. Finally, I consider this experiential task as fundamental for us, as future teachers, due to it gives us the knowledge and experience to anticipate possible escenarios when teaching a L2, and pann in advance for this possibles escenarios.
